Craig rested upon his bed, staring up at the ceiling, his arms folded behind his head.
'Ah, what should I be doing? Let's see...listening to someone complain about something, be watching new pilots test each other, figuring out supply rations so we don't all die.'
The Captain closed his eyes and sighed, the responsibility was killing him. He was in charge of the last lot of people...probably the last lot of several species - including his own, in the universe.
Maybe it was time to elect a President to be in charge of the civilians, so he could just deal with the crew; taking some of the crap off his plate.
No...it was too soon. People were still shaken by the horrid occurrence that destroyed their homes, their loved ones, and everything they held dear.
Maybe once everything was calmed down, he'd poke around and get a President - but not now.

Knock Knock

Sawyer let out a low moan, and flung his legs, countering his downward wait and throwing him into a standing position. He adjusted his uniform slightly - since he was technically on his lunch break - and slammed his hand against the button to open the door.
The protocol was to push the camera button and see who was outside, ask their business, then open the door...but for some reason he suddenly didn't give a crap.
"Yes?"

"Yes?" Came the reply from Chris' knock on the door. He stepped back a foot from the door and smiled. He knew the Captain had a lot on his plate. Chris could telepathically sense it. He spoke aloud, "Captain, I was wondering if I might have a word." He wasnt there on business he just simply wanted to check up on the Captain. It came with being Seventy five years old, though it wasnt until the following week.

"Captain, I was wondering if I might have a word." came the words from one of the pilots, Chris Hatfield.
"Sure...is there a problem?" he asked, honestly wondering what the meeting between them was about.
He hadn't been alerted to any mishaps in the docking bay or pilots' quarters...so maybe it wasn't anything along those lines...
Fully aware that Chris dwarfed Craig's slowly advancing age, he knew the man could have been possibly passing by to make sure the Captain was in his head - since Craig had been a little anti-social for a few days.

With a subtle movement, Craig invited Chris into his humble 'abode', since there was no need for them to stand in the hallway.

"I was just in the neighborhood and I figured I would see how you are feeling is all sir." Chris said. Though he was seventy five he only felt in his mid to late twenties. He smiled as Craig invited him in and said, "I have noticed that you havent been your normal self and I was wondering if everything was alright."

Craig smiled, taking a seat in his own quarters after closing his door.
"Uhg...is it that obvious? I just need to clear my head a little that's all. I'm fine, though. That was kind of you to take concern in your Captain's well being, though." Sawyer smiled, happy to see his crew give-a-damn about him.
That was a good sign.
Once the crew and their leader bonded and all got along, prosperity was possible - the wise words of his father.
"How's everything doing for you though?" the Captain continued, "How are the ships doing? I've flown them all - to test them of course - but it's been awhile...maybe I should go flying more...but that's putting an unneeded risk upon the Captain and blah-blah-blah..."

Chris smiled, "The ships are just fine sir. I take them out for a spin weekly to make sure they stay in perfect condition. And you are mroe than welcome to join me for a flight sir. I would be honored for the Captian to join me during a test flight." He looked at the Captain and said, "With all due respect sir, this is your ship and you may do as you very well please. Including going to a flight every once in a while. too bad Earth was destroyed, I would take you for a spin in one of the old F-18 Fighter Jets I used to fly when I was your age." He chuckled, at the little joke about his own age.

Craig smiled at the idea of getting behind the 'wheel' again. Flying something as large as the Aurora just wasn't as fun. Also, a hint of his smile came from the fact that Chris looked younger then he, but Sawyer was fully aware that the man was in his 70's. Shame Craig was only half Shi.

"I might take you up on your offer - I just want to get everything settled around here first. Everyone's still a bit uneasy, things are still broken from the crash-coarse through the worm-hole...so soon. Just not right now."

"Aye sir." Chris said, he knew there was a lot on the Captain's plate since learning about the destruction of Earth. And the Damage Aurora sustained going through that wormhole. Chris nodded as he heard the Captain speak. He then said, "Sir I was wondering, if a new idea for a defensive fighter were to arise I would liek permission to be the test pilot for the project."

Craig rose a brow.
"Is the Bar racuda not as feisty as you like?]" he asked, wondering if the pilot simply thirsted for something different.
"I mean - the Barracuda is a great ship - but if you're looking for something that's even better...uhg...I guess I could talk to the mechanics and see if they have any ideas or time..." Sawyer trailed off, his eye focusing on a bright star. It had only been yesterday night that the thought of every star might hold a new Earth, hit him. Such an amazing idea...and true too. What a bonus.

Chris shook his head at the Captain's question, "Actually sir, the Barracuda and I get along great. I was just requesting to be considered for the position of experimental pilot. If it is not possible. I will be more than happy to continue flying a Barracuda. And its no rush to find something different. It was more of a "For the future" question." He smiled and followed Craig's gaze to the star and his smile grew wider.

"Ah," Craig nodded, "I see..."
"We are in need of crash-test-dummies." Sawyer smirked after considering what Chris had said for a moment.

There was always a need for pilots to attempt to fly the newest ships - mainly since not many wanted to put their lives on the chopping block with a ship that probably still had serious problems - which they always did. It wasn't the mechanics fault - version 1.0 was always faulty; whether it was the fact it didn't stop, or the landing gear didn't come down. It always happened. Craig was one of those pilots once...nearly cost him his life.

"Are you sure you want that job? It's pretty risky...I know you could do it; but I'm not sure if I want to lose one of my best pilots to a wire that simply needed more tape."

Chris chuckled at Craig's comment and said, "Can you think of a better candidate for the position sir? You yourself are ineligible as you are too valuable to the ship and her crew. I myself am different, I can be expendable. Besides I am an experienced pilot and have over thirty five years in logged flight hours racked up. But the choice is ultimately yours Captain." He addressed Craig formally as to not sound disrepectful as he spoke.

He admired Sawyer as he was about half Chris' age and yet was commanding and operating an entire city. The burden must've been difficult to handle, yet Chris' words held a ring of truth, Sawyer was more important to the Aurora than he. And if there was an accident during testing Chris would rather it be himself than the Captian or someone else being the one to experience it.

Craig nodded, seeing where Chris was coming from.
"You're anything but expendable - you're one of the best pilots and it would be a large blow to the Aurora if anything happened to you..but it's least likely that anything with happen to you if something went wrong. You know how to handle things..."

Craig trailed off in thought, unsure what to do.
"I'll allow it - but I'll be pissed if the mechanics kill ya."

Chris nodded and said, "I am both honored and flattered at your comments Captain. And I believe I myself will be fairly pissed as well if the mechanics manage to kill me. And thank you for the opportunity sir." He looked at the Captain and said, "So what are you up to today sir?"
